Casa Vasca is a standout Basque restaurant nestled in the heart of Newark’s vibrant Ironbound district. Specializing in authentic Basque and Spanish cuisine, this inviting spot at 141 Elm St brings the rich culinary traditions of northern Spain straight to your plate, offering a truly memorable dining experience.
Step inside Casa Vasca and you’re immediately enveloped in a warm, welcoming atmosphere, where attentive service complements the rustic charm. The restaurant boasts a menu brimming with mouthwatering dishes that showcase the best of Basque gastronomy, from the robust flavors of Lacon Con Grelos (pork shoulder with turnip greens) to the succulent Pulpo a La Feria—octopus prepared in the traditional Galician style, tender and perfectly seasoned.
Seafood lovers are particularly spoiled here. The Seafood Paella is a fragrant, vibrant medley of rice, saffron, and fresh ocean treasures—a signature Spanish classic that sings with each bite. Equally irresistible are the Gambas Al Ajillo, sizzling garlic shrimp bathed in olive oil, and the Monk Fish & Clams in Marinere Sauce, a harmonious marriage of flavors that speaks to the sea’s bounty. If you prefer a meat dish, try the grilled Solomillo A La Parilla or the hearty Steak with Eggs and French Fries, both cooked to perfection and seasoned with authentic regional spices.
Casa Vasca’s appetizers (aperitivos) set the tone for a flavorful journey—choose from delicacies like Almejas En Salsa Verde (clams in green sauce), Chorizo A La Parrilla grilled chorizo, or the lightly battered Calamares A La Romana that offer a crunchy, savory introduction to your meal.
When it comes to desserts, the sweet finishes are just as tempting. Indulge in classic Spanish treats like Flan, creamy and rich; Tiramisu with its delicate layers; or the refreshing Orange Sorbet, perfect to cleanse your palate. Pair these with a bold Espresso or a glass of house-special sangria, a fruity and invigorating wine blend that perfectly balances the meal.
Customers consistently praise Casa Vasca not only for its authentic flavors but also its heartfelt hospitality. Bryan calls it his “favorite Spanish restaurant in Ironbound Newark,” always leaving “satisfied,” while Megan Ross highlights the “amazing food and warm hospitality,” emphasizing the genuine care shown by the staff and the owner. Ariel Crowder’s experience reflects the attentive service and quality of the seafood, with a personalized touch that makes every guest feel truly at home. Even those who revel in generous portions, like David Banu, appreciate the friendly ambiance and value.
Whether you’re seeking a cozy dinner to savor traditional Basque cuisine or a lively gathering spot to share excellent food and memorable moments, Casa Vasca delivers an experience rich in flavor and heart. Its authentic menu, combined with a warm, welcoming environment, makes it an unmissable gem in Newark’s dining scene.
Absolutely my favorite Spanish Restaurant in Ironbound Newark. I always leave here satisfied.
This place sets the standard for amazing food and warm hospitality. Everything feels genuinely authentic, from the flavors to the way guests are treated. The staff go above and beyond to make sure you’re completely taken care of, and the owner is such a kind and welcoming person who makes everyone feel at home. Once you eat here, it’s hard to find anywhere else that measures up!
It’s a good spot everyone was very friendly and the food was good. They also give an inordinate amount of food. I mean I don’t think I single person at our table finished their food. The ambience is nice and overall I like it.
12/5 recommend this place! Incredibly polite and attentive staff, refilling drinks for you, wrapping your left overs for you, and making sure the food is perfect. Great seafood selection. Delicious homemade bread. Variety of alcoholic beverages to choose from (I enjoyed some Sangria). Best dinner experience in our trip to New York. Will be coming back again when in the area!
What a gem! Great pulpo and croquetas de bacalao, really missed these. The bacalao al pil pil was really good too, and the portion was huge. Nice staff and great service, though the best thing was the people we met who recommended us all the good places to eat/shop in the neighborhood.
Very nice and traditional Iberian/Basque restaurant. To get to the restaurant, you need to go through the bar. The food and service were really nice, a bit on a posh side - but without American overly excited attitude. Very authentic, reminds me of some restaurants in Iberian peninsula.
It’s refreshing to see a historical heritage Spanish restaurant, accommodating to all cultures coming to experience Spanish cuisine. It was wonderful to see Latin American staff that were impeccably trained. The food did not disappoint being of Spanish heritage. It was sad to see a negative review a while back, saying that the ambience and the food and service was not good. Quite contrary I personally think that that person may have not wanted to see a diverse community of different nationalities, enjoying the restaurant
